Lake Malawi Reflection:
At the lake, I was able to reflect on our time in Malawi. I thought about the resourcefulness and creativity I had seen—such as kids playing soccer with plastic bags tied up with rubber bands. On the drive to Lake Malawi, I witnessed a young man filling potholes on the road. It was just him, a shovel, and sheer determination. We also passed many brick-making sites; seeing people make bricks by hand fascinated me. It highlighted the hard work and ingenuity of people in the villages, and the effort required to make life go on.
I thought about how everyone we encountered had welcomed us with open arms. From the moment we landed in Malawi, Eddy’s kindness and enthusiasm for sharing his country with us stood out. Our friends from the African Bible College shared their language and customs, teaching us many traditional songs and games. In the villages, we were met with enthusiastic greetings despite being strangers entering their home. Their warmth and genuine hospitality created an immediate sense of belonging and connection.
The openness and generosity shown to us revealed the essence of what defines this remarkable part of the world. The people of Malawi truly exemplify the spirit of the Warm Heart of Africa.
